Default Steeping grains question

when i steep the grains should i put them in a grain bag or directly in the water and then strain?

grain bag is easier if under 5 lbs.

Use a bag, but remove when temp is at or just below 170 degrees F. Dont squeeze the hot bag, it may burn your hand. I do heat about a quart of water to rinse after removing, but not really necessary. If over about 1 1/2 lb, I use 2 bags

Don't squeeze at all! Get the temp to 150-160, then let it sit for 30 minutes. Then pour (sparge) about a half gallon onto the bag to get the rest of the "juices" out. Never squeeze the bag...it will release tannins.

Grain bag. It is a serious pain to strain later...
