Default start of Krausen?

My first time using a carboy for pirmary, so I wonder if this is the start of the Krausen?

Also how active is Hefeweizen Ale (WLP300) likely to be? When should I switch to an airlock?

Flame out last night was aprox 10:00pm and I Pitched at 10:40pm and that picture is 8:06 am.

So nice to have a proper brew thermometer now too, was able to keep the steeping grains right on heat for the whole 50 minutes .

1. Looks like it to me.
2. Can be extremely active.
3. Switch after the krausen stops coming out the tube or it starts to settle.

[Assumes you are making a Hefe and not an IPA with a Hefe yeast. Wheat does make a difference.]

it's a dunkel wizen, i have 7 lbs of LME in there i'll move it downstairs then and keep the blow off on it. The wife would have a fit if i leave it in the tub!

Didn't get my yeast early enough to make a starter, atleast it had a chance to sit on the counter for a good 4 hours to warm to room temp from the cooler my LHBS keeps their stock in.

I wanted to try doing a starter with this batch, but definatly doing one next time. I've had good luck pitching the white labs straight out of the bottle before

From the picture it already looks like you have an airlock on it. Did you switch to a blowoff tube after you took this pic?
