Default Splitting a 5g batch into 2.5g

If I split a 5g batch into two 2.5g batches what should my procedure be for pitching the yeast? I'm going to make a nut brown ale but I want to try two different yeasts. Is it easier to overpitch/underpitch in these situations? Any advice would be appreciated.

half a pack should work fine. i do 2 gal and ive thirded it with no problem. I eyeball it it usually works out ok,if you have a gram scale that will work.Ive heard it may be worse to underpitch than over but could be wrong.I think there is more of a window for overpitching. Just seal it good and use it soon.I have a vaccum sealer now wich is great for hops, grains, yeast.

Dry yeast? Pitch half a pack. Liquid yeast? A smack pack or vial should be exactly what you need for 2.5 gallons of a normal gravity beer. Check Mr. Malty with your OG values to be sure.
