Simple Hefeweizen
I did this one today, followed it spot on.
http://www.homebrewtalk.com/f70/simple-hefeweizen-186432/ Had a boil over on the late dme addition. Gravity was 1.070. That is way off. I took the gravity after I aerated and pitched cause I forgot. Any ideas? This is my second batch. |
Could be a measurement error. Just let it ride and see where you end up. I wouldn't worry.
|
Taking the gravity after aerating wouldn't be an issue IMO, but taking it after pitching your yeast would cause it to be off.
|
How much boil over was there? Might make sense if you lost a decent volume before the dme fully dissolved. You mixed the wort well and all that good stuff before taking the sample? But I agree with weizen, sit back and let the yeast enjoy that nice big pot of wort you made for em.

If anything the difference in the reading will only affect your ABV%. Not a huge worry when you first start doing this.
|
I don't think I lost too much on the boil over.
I'm always in such a rush on the end part and I forget to do stuff. I really have no idea how to use that brewtarget software to see what the gravity should be. |
I'm just going to stick with kits. My Cream Ale tastes great and smells great.
|
I would have had to read the hydrometer wrong or something.

If you lost water before the extract fully dissolved that would mean theres less water for a roughly unchanged amount of extract. Same amount of extract in less water makes a higher SG
