Safale US-05 for this stout?
|
|
Hello all,
Just wondering if you think that 2 packets of US-05 would work well with this stout recipe?
Thanks
9lbs DME
1lb Black Patent
1lb Roasted Barley
1/2lb Chocolate
1.5oz Falconer's Flight 60m
2oz Williamette for 20m
1oz Warrior dry hop
1lb Brown sugar
1tsp Irish moss

Yes definitely. Make sure with the pitching rate calculator from MrMalty. However, I can tell you from experience that US-05 does well even if under pitched.
Either way, I think you'll be happy if you pitch two packets.

Here is the link to the calculator:
http://www.mrmalty.com/calc/calc.html
I didn't put your specifics into the calculator to give you the exact amount needed because you didn't specify the batch size (Would tell us OG).
Either way, you can do that to get comfortable with the tool. It will definitely help you in the future.

Then you need roughly 1.5 packets of the 11.5 gram US-05 yeast packets. Although, 2 full packets will be just fine.

I did a half batch (2.5gals) on one packet that had about the same OG, around 9.6% ABV. the US-05 did great. 2 should be plenty for 5 gals.
