Default Random Brew. few questions

So. I have all this left over beer stuff and it will go bad soon, so I decide to
grab all my grains, yeast, hops and malt and just make a random brew.

A few questions.

Has anyone every done this? Any advice?

I am using an old Safbrew T-58, dry yeast. I have only used smackpacks.
How should I add yeast, just sprinkle on top or create a small sugar starter?

T-58 Safbrew ok to ferment at about 60?

Is 12 oz of Black malt too much for 3 gallons?

Thanks guys, great brewing.

If you don't have any other plans for the stuff and are worried It will go bad i would use them. I don't think the black is too much.

You don't want to make a starter with dry yeast because it's actually unnecessary. Just rehydrate the yeast with 100* water. I think it would be an interesting experiment. And I would check the yeast profile about the temp. I just made a batch with t58 and kept it around 66.

It;'s hard to have any brew stuff go 'bad'
Hops in a sealed pack will stay indefinitely in the freezer,
Dried yeast will live a long long time in the fridge.
UNmilled grain will last upwards of a year (again, sealed and in cool conditions)
DME will last forever (almost)
LME will last a long time, though t may not be it's best after long storage.
If you do want to get rid of some inventory, though, go to town
Usually they say a pack of dried yeast can be sprinkled right on top, though I prefer to rehydrate before pitching. (I would keep rehydration temps around 70 - 80 range; closer to fermenting temps is best for the yeast ) It will work at lower temps, though a couple degrees higher wouldn't hurt.
Depending on what style you're shooting for, black malt may or may not be too much; I think it's good for a big stout, it has a pretty evident flavor.
