Hi,

I kegged my first brew two weeks ago with 80g of priming sugar to 5 gallons (this was the amount recommended in the Joy of Homebrewing - it said you should use less when kegging than bottling ??)

I calculated the alcohol content just before kegging at 3.6%. The kit says it should be around 4.5%. I left it to ferment for 2 weeks.

Does priming increase the alcohol content? I don't think it would make sense to take a hydrometer reading of the brew after kegging as the sugar content is different.

Does anyone know if the alcohol content increases significantly if using priming sugar?

It should raise it, roughly, by 0.2%. So you can count on 3.8% final ABV.

Evan's right..it increases, but definitely not significantly.
homemade rootbeer has alcohol too from the carbonation, but only like .3% (way less than cough syrup or Binaca) so its fine for kids to drink
