Default Pitched yeast with temp too high??

I had a horrible day of brewing...I transferred my semi cool wort to the primary and I picked up my hydrometer to take a reading and...smash! Broken glass all over the floor. So in my pissed off state I didn't take a temperature reading and pitched the wort. I'm guessing it was somewhere around 85 degrees. Is that too high?

yes. get it down as quickly as possible. for most yeast you should ferment near 68 degrees.

What type of yeast/strain was it? Might not have been too high to shock the yeast. If the yeast do start up you could have a lot of foaming and might need a blowoff tube

85* isn't too high. Just let it be.

Just a heads up, don't leave it in the garage too long, there can be some wild temp swings from day to night in the garage. Other than that my money is on the fact your fine. Just be a little more careful next time and until then RDWHAHB.
