While I haven't had a chance to take a reading, I did open the cover and take a peak. There's about 2" deep of foam and a nice Krausen ring, so I'll check gravity once the kids are in bed but I guess all is well in homebrewland.
I wasn't planning on touching it anymore, other than a reading which ill take via the faucet, so I wont have to lift the cover again. Or should I bother?
I wouldn't even bother at this point. The krausen is enough to tell you that fermentation is going on. IMO, to take a gravity reading is just wasting beer at this point. You wouldn't have karausen if it wasn't fermenting. Give it a couple of weeks and then take the readings to make sure it's done.
