As I see it, you have two main options.
1. Lagers take longer than ales, so if you're antsy to taste your first brew order the ale and wait a week to brew. It will still be faster overall than waiting for the lager to finish.
2. If you're not the impatient type, then check if the carboy fits in the fridge first.
If it does, do some reading on this site... search for lager... and go for it. If it doesn't fit, see option one.
