I'm trying to move to all-grain on a budget and am thinking about picking up a cheap aluminum kettle. My only hesitation is whether I can later drill this to weld on a spigot, or a sightglass and thermometer if down the road it would be useful as an HLT. Since I don't know jack about metallurgy, I was hoping someone could shed some light on this for me. Thanks!

I'm no expert, but from what i've heard i think welding alum is a pain in the...
Also I think you would have to get aluminum couplings and what-not.

I would try like the devil to scrounge up a used keg for a keggle...

You don't have to weld it(which would be a PITA trying to source the appropriate parts) just use a weldless fitting.
