Default My cider isn't fermenting. Can someone tell me why?

It could just be too early. I started about 14 hours ago. I followed this recipe exactly: http://beerrecipes.org/showrecipe.php?recipeid=1346. Can anyone tell me why it isn't fermenting or can you please rate the recipe? Maybe it isn't my fault and it actually just isn't a good recipe.

Thanks!

What temperature are you fermenting at? Unless it is really cold it just may be taking the yeast a little time to start up. I wouldn't worry until it hits past the 24 hr mark

Depending in the yeast, you are on the very cold end or just below it. Let it warm up to about 59 (assuming you haven't looked at the yeast package to see the ideal range - if you have just get it a degree or two above the bottom).

As was said, you are way too early to start worrying about whether or not its fermenting.

They list the optimum fermentation temp for the Red Star Champagne yeast as 59-86, and recommend 68F as optimum. 55F is likely a bit too cold, and the yeast are dormant. You need to warm it up to at least 60ish, and the fermentation will be fine.

Good luck!
