Default MSG in homebrew

so this sounds a little weird. my father is allergic to MSG (monosodium Glutamate) and had a reaction from one of my homebrews, (he narrowed it down to the only unknown product of the day). he thinks that brewers yeast has MSG as a flavor enhancer??

never heard of it. please let me know!!

He could have had a reaction to live yeast which he may never have been exposed to or is just not use to.

What kind?
Also, what has he had that he did not have a reaction to?

There's no "flavor enhancer" in yeast, or anything we add to our beers. More than likely it is purely a reaction to the larger amount of yeast in homebrew.

Read these threads http://www.homebrewtalk.com/f14/bad-...igosaccharides

and here http://www.homebrewtalk.com/f14/so-w...igosaccharides

It'll give you an idea what's more than likely going on....But yeast has nothing like that added.

This was cross-posted in the Brew Science forum. Some very interesting information about MSG in yeast.

he will get rashes on his legs and back when he comes in contact with MSG. it isn't a gastro-intestinal thing. and he had this reaction after having a Lefse Blond from one of the kits at NB.
