Default Midwest Octane IPA

Going to brew Midwest's Octane IPA this weekend, I want to kick up the ABV just a bit so was told I could do so by adding a pound of DME or a poung of corn sugar.
My question is which do you reccomend or shold I split the difference and add 1/2lb. of each
And by doing so should I add more hops to compensate?

thank you

Why not just use more malt extract?
