Two months ago when I started brewing, I thought I would be happy doing a few one gallon batches of beer, and, I am very happy! However, I would be happier with a larger setup. My birthday is around the corner and I want to ask my wife for a nice, small, keg set up.

What is a good bang for the buck?

Happy Early Birthday! This sounds just like me. When I first started brewing a few months ago I never thought I'd need/want kegs. Well long story short I ended up getting a keg starter kit from my LHBS last weekend. I figured one keg would suffice for awhile...Well, turns out I'm picking up 4 more kegs today from a guy on CL, to bring my grand total up to 5. Who knows how many I'll end up with now, so just be careful ;)

As for places to get keg starter kits (keg, lines, quick disconnects, regulator, and CO2 bottle)...

Check you LHBS. By the time I factored in shipping for the kit and the price to fill the CO2 tank my LHBS was VERY competitive. Not to mention you can pick out your keg to make sure you get the best one.

As for online, I checked these places:
http://stores.kegconnection.com/StoreFront.bok
http://www.kegcowboy.com/
http://www.northernbrewer.com/
http://www.midwestsupplies.com/
http://www.homebrewing.org/

If memory serves correct I think adventures in homebrewing (http://www.homebrewing.org/), and Keg Connections (http://stores.kegconnection.com/StoreFront.bok) were the cheapest.

Let me know if you have any other questions!

Cheers!

I always try to support local business when I can! The kit was $199 and came with my choice of keg, duel regulator, picnic tap, lines, and a full 5lb CO2 kit. A tank exchange around here is $22 so that full tank is a nice added bonus!
