Default Measuring OG when beer is super cloudy?

How do u guys check ur og when the beer is thickened from all the boiling gunk? My black IPA was showing 1.100. I am running thru a coffee filter to clean it up. Two times actually.

boiling gunk doesn't affect the gravity of the beer. Just put it in your tube and take a reading.

Refractometer... IF it's full of stuff, I just put the 4 dram vial into the fridge for a while so it can settle out. Then I pull the fraction of a ml I need to get the reading.

BTW, 4 dram vials hold 1/2oz of fluid.

Weird because when I filtered it once it lowers it to 1.090.

That was what I did first. Put it in fridge for a while and it was still super thick.

You using a hydrometer or refractometer? If you have enough reserved, let it sit at least 24 hours and then carefully pour into your test cylinder. Make sure it's as close to 60F as possible too.

Came out to 1.086 after filtering. Much closer to my expectation.
