so i am going to start my keezer today. i am just going to put a collar on the chest freezer i got.

i've been reading about attaching the collar to the lid and not the base. has anyone done this? do you have pictures. how would i attach it to the lid? just caulk, glue and the hinge in the back?

suggestions? words of warning that i might not think of before my conversion?

thanks

from what i read and what im going to do is you can caulk the wood to the base and not connect the top to it. just get some foam and line the inside of the collar and it should work good. From what i see if you connect it to the top its gonna create a headache trying to open and take out your kegs. thats just an observation im not a pro at keezers yet but hope that helps someone correct me if im wrong

Bobby_M has his collar attached to the lid. If you use a fairly lightweight wood for it, you'll be fine, since the hinges will have to hold up the extra weight. It also allows you to use the same screw holes in the back of the freezer body.

You'll have to remove the gasket from the lid, at least, and attach it to the bottom of the collar.

If you're pretty good at DIY, go for it. I'm not, so I attached the collar to the freezer body and put the lid on that. Plus, I have a big keezer, so I'm not sure the hinges could hold such a large collar.

nah u should be alright show us the before and after pics of the tower, its gonna look pretty sweet all polished up

ok, new plan. no collar. i am going to get this tower cleansed up monday. very excited. i am going to rebuild my bar around the keezer

Did you get the tower? It look awesome.... ought to be a real centerpiece when you're done with it if you did get it.

i got it. its pretty nice. its not quite what i expected. the faucets are plastic. other than that, its great. it came apart real easy but some of the fittings are ones i've never seen. so i am worried about being able to get one parts for it. i might start a new post with pictures and questions about a rebuild on this thing

Worst came to worse you can always replace the faucets with better ones as time and money allow. It sure is a cool looking thing

can i just clean the crap out of the plastic faucets, or should i replace them? i have other faucets, but they are silver, and wont match the brass and black tower
