When brewing something hoppy, I strain with my ss strainer. When it starts to slow down, I use my stir paddle to push the gunk around, clearing small spaces as I go. The incoming wort certainly goes to the newly cleared paths preferentially, so they reckon quickly. After it gets to be too big of a pain I turn off the valve, knock the hop gunk off against my garbage can, give it a quick rinse in the sink, and re-sanitize before going back to strain more wort.
Works well for me.
