Default How to use yeast sediment from primary.

I've read a little about using the yeast cake to start another batch. Is there anyway to save the sediment for a while, or do you have to use it right away?

The BEST way is to make another batch and chill it right into the primary. It'll be fermenting within hours.

Alternately, you can save some in a sanitized jar and use it later.

there are a lot of threads here on the subject. Try a search.

Cheers

Look for threads on yeast washing. Basically, you mix the trub with water and let the yeast settle out.

If you are using the yeast soon than I'd leave it on the beer in a sanitized mason jar with an airlock. Pour the beer off when you go to use it and pitch. I leave mine on the beer this way for up to a month without any off flavors.
