I've had much less trouble with the silicone stopper:

It slips much less, and also has a lip around the edge that prevents you from pushing it into the carboy.

Interesting...I've always found my silicone stopper like that one to be more prone to slipping than the rubber ones...oh well, YMMV

Paper towel is also what I do as well, never had any issues and it takes like 10 seconds.

I use a small zip tie , thread it through the handle, over the stopper and lighty tighten it....works every time!!!!
