Default Half full keg question?

I am about to venture into kegging for the first time and I have a question about filling a keg only half full...... Can you?

I have a 5 gallon batch of IPA that is ready to bottle/keg. I would like to bottle half of the batch so I can give some samples out to friends and family. Can I still keg the remaining 2 1/2 gallons or should a keg be filled all the way when kegging?

Please forgive my stupid question as I am completely new to the world of kegging.

Sure, you can do that. The co2 will displace the headspace, so oxidation isn't an issue.

If you are planning on doing this often, you could look into getting a 3 gallon keg too!
