Default Freshness of black malts

I have two lbs of uncrushed black malts from an old stout, they've been in a plastic bag folded over several times and ruberbanded, BUT, they are also about a year old.

I know they say use crushed grains in 2-4 weeks and uncrushed in 3-4 months, but am I going to be able to get away with black malts that are older?

Also, I was going to buy a couple of larger airtight containers, it this going to help the shelf life at all or am I wasting money?

I don't know how well black malts stand up to age compared to other grains, but if I were you I would just replace them with fresh grains. No point making a sub par batch of beer when you can fairly cheaply replace 2 # of grains.
