Default Is it the end of the world...

if i scaled down an apfelwein recipe by half, creating some headspace, but i still pitched 5 grams of yeast?

I know RDWHAHB, but im just curious as to the effects of my situation

It'll be fine.

5 grams was the entire packet i believe (could be wrong)

Are there any negative effects of pitching TOO much yeast?

5g is no where near too much yeast.
It's possibly close to too little rather than too much.
Yeast packs are normally 7 or 11 gram.
5 grams is not even too much for 1 gallon.

Like I said. It'll be fine.

The Montrachet yeast for the apfelwein comes in 5g packets.

There's no reason to allow for extra head space when using Montrachet yeast as it forms little (if any at all) krausen. You can fill the carboy to the neck and be fine.
