Default Dry Hopped Question.....

So I did my first drop hopped beer. It's been a week on the hops and I plan to let it run another week at least....

I used pellets and no bag so my question is around getting the hop material to fall out or strained out.

Will the pellets/material fall out? If not can I strain it? If so what would be a good method to do so?

I usually dryhop for no more than 10 days. Some of the pellets will fall apart and fall to the bottom, while others will just keep floating. I use my autosiphon, placing the end about 1/2 way down in the beer and start siphoning from the middle. The black tip on the end keeps much of the crud out. As the level of the beer drops, I drop the end of the racking cane lower until it's just above the yeast cake. It works pretty darn well, with no problems so far!

I usually just throw the pellets in before I rack to secondary, so they get a good swirl. After that, I usually swirl every couple days to suspend them. Muslin bag over racking cane works well for me whn going to keg.

Don't know if this will work for you in Alabama, but if there is some way for you to chill the fermenter down, those hops will drop very quickly. Especially if there is still some yeast in suspension. They will cling to the hop particles when they flocculate and drag the hops down into the trub. I just stuck my pale ale into a 44F spot in my basement and the hops were nowhere to be found in two days.

+2 on cold crashing for getting the hops to drop out, works like a charm. if not possible yoop's technique always works great.
