I am making some homebeer right now out of a pot that I used to make root beer, using extract. Will root beer stain or taint my normal beer? Im using a stainless steel pot, but is there any way i can get out the root beer smell? I can very faintly smell it coming from the pot, but I don't think it should be that big of a deal.

boil some baking soda or vinegar in it maybe? I can't imagine it would stick in your stainless too long. Rubber/plastic is another story - the smell is permanent.

It is pretty strong stuff. I think that SS should be ok if you clean it with the right stuff, but you can forget about plastic.

Try bleach or oxyclean on that kettle. Or maybe just boil with some water for a while. I imagine that will eventually drive off the aromas.
