Default Did i just poison myself?

I just cleaned a couple 5 gal carboys with oxyclean to get all of that sticky crap left over from the blowoff, and I used about 4 scoops of oxyclean in each to do this. Then I read the ingestion warning on the back... Did I use too much and potentially make these carboys unsafe to use? Or will these carboys be fine after a good rinse, with sanatized with bleach..?

But yeah, that's a LOT of Oxyclean...

EDIT: Anyone know if the Oxyclean/bleach combination is safe? We were doing laundry the other night, wasn't sure whether it was advisable to use both....

I wouldn't mess around with adding bleach to rinse off the Oxyclean...That could be deadly. I'm not sure...but it is never a good idea to mix any kind of cleaning supply with bleach...if there's any amonia in the other product you've just made potentially nasty fumes...Heck even mixing vinegar with bleach has to be done in a certain order. I can't recall why, just that Charlie Talley the created of Starsan was saying something about it on a podcast.

Just rinse it thoroughly....

I tend to use a lot of oxyclean when I clean...and I just rinse several times. To no ill effect.

I don't know for sure, but I wouldn't recommend it. Personally, I er on the safe side and I don't mix bleach with anything but water.

Bleach and the active ingredient in oxyclean on a chemical level shouldn't directly interact with each other. Bleach does interact with organic material differently at different Ph levels, a more acidic solution releases more cholorine ion's and allows it to clea a little better. I don't know if the oxyclean can in some way alter the Ph of the water if it does that would affect the bleach, best to be safe and not mix them...

I found out the hard way back in college that adding both oxyclean and bleach to your whites will result in whites with a bunch of holes in them. I can't imagine it's any better a combination outside of the washing machine.
