I've heard good things about coopers. It is quite popular in Australia. How much did it cost per pound? Any idea how old it is?

I used bries from More Beer when i was extract brewing just because it was super fresh, and more beer is my LHBS, but you should be fine with a can of coopers so long as its not incredibly old, and you didn't have to take out a line of credit for the extract.

Use appropriate fermentables with it and you will have a decent beer. As for the price, it's difficult to say without knowing how much you pay and where you live.

I have never bothered comparing the Coopers kits I brewed with the actual Coopers brews. I have seen this done numerous times on Youtube and they appear to be fairly even in the respect of flavor.

The price for me to make one of their kits is a less than 30 dollars for the equivalent of over 2 cases of beer. This is with the use of 3-3.3 lbs. of fermentables. The cost of Coopers at my local liquor store is over 40 dollars a case.

Hope this helps.

You could make a nice session beer out of it with 2lbs of Munton's plain light DME & 2oz of English hops. I say this because Cooper's are English derived from the colonial times when English ales were shipped to the colonies there. Munton's is English,so they all work quite well together. ABV would be about 4.6% by the cooper's formula of (OG-FG)/7.46 + .5 = ABV%.
