Default Chocolate Malt

I coulnd't find a detailed thread on this. I was wondering how much 'chocolate' flavor actually is produced by this malt? I am making an American Brown Ale and really want a noticable chocolate present. I used chocolate malt for about 5 percent of the grain bill.

It doesn't taste anything like chocolate, rather named more for the color. It'll give you some caramel notes in your beers (among other flavours).

So what puts the chocolate / Coffee notes in American Brown Ales. I've tasted some that assert those flavors.

I don't know what malts put those flavours in there.

You can always add actual chocolate. I would figure powdered unsweetened cocoa would work reasonably well, stay away from milk chocolates or anything with a lot of fat or additives.

Yes, unsweetened cocoa. 1/2 - 3/4 cup per 5 gallon batch added to the end of the boil

Yeah, I used unsweetened cocoa as well. Just be careful not to add too much.
I tried Jamil's chocolate porter awhile back, didnt read the recipe right, and ended up with a chocolate shake like beer. waaaay too sweet.
