Default Carbing Temp? Carbing in a growler?

Looked around and haven't found a specific answer...

The recipe is a creme ale...

What's a good temp range to carb our bottles in? Is it ok if there is a flucuation in temps as long as its not too extreme?

Also, I know its generally considered risky to carbing in a growler, but who here has done it before? Any bad results? It's a serious ammount of beer in one of these!

I tried to carb once in a growler. It was a screw on lid. I thought I "conditioned" a barley wine for about 1 year. Went to open it with some friends. 0 carbonation and the stuff inside was no longer barleywine. The other 40+ bottles were really good that I capped.

If you carb in a growler you run the chance of it blowing up on you. they are not designed to hold pressure
