Default Can I use a doppleweiss yeast for beer/cider? Its been sitting for a month........

Am wondering.......

I tried the used scotch yeast in an apple cider and it came out great.

I have an old doppleweiss yeast thats been in an airtight carboy though for a month,

Do you think that yeast can still be used? It has some doppleweiss left in that id need to remove, just a bit.

Otherwise I do have one extra pack of muntons yeast. But id like to use the doppplewiess if possible.

It doesn't really matter much what yeast you use in cider. Cider only has simple sugars in it & any yeast will process it the same way. Yeasts need complex malt sugars to produce different flavors.

A month isn't a problem for a yeast, but plan on a major blowout.

Take a sniff. If it has started to autolysis, it will smell like Vegemite (AKA compost).

OK, started at 7PM and poured in 2lbs total, while adding in the apple cider.

Woke up this morning 6:30am just to make sure it wasnt going crazy and it hasnt started yet but we'll see what happens.

Its got no preservatives so it should work. Hopefully the old yeast cake wasnt dead.
