Default BrewVint Yeast Fuel?

Anyone use this? when ordering from Austin Homebrew, its only 1.50 extra, is it worth it? What exactly does it do also?

It's a yeast energizer. Like Servomyces(sp?). It's yeast hulls (dead yeast) and some other ingredients to speed up fermentation.

They're 1.09/ea or 6 for 5.99

Not sure it's worth it if you're getting decent fermentations without it, but if you try it let us know how it turns out.

More important for meads and wine. I've used yeast nutrient a few times for ales, but can't say I've noticed a difference.

I use it for peace of mind in a starter. Only need a 'pinch' so it lasts forever.

WARNING: do not add to boiling wort in a starter! It turns an Erlymeyer flask into a glass volcano!

I've done ales with and without it and have noticed a slighty faster take off and a stronger ferment while using it. I say it's not necessary, but for only an extra dollar, I'll keep using it.

What?

I've poured boiling wort into a flask a billion times, and then promptly dunked it in an ice bath to cool it.

Never had it volcano.

I think he's talking about ading more wort (when it's boiling) to a starter
