Depends on the level of alcohol. Some Barleywines will age well for many years. Other beers may start to taste a little off within a matter of a couple of months.

No idea. Mine have always gotten better with age (though some Hefe I made last October does not seem to be improving any more). The longer any have lasted for me was about eight months, at which time they seemed to be at their best.
I would like to try not even opening one for eight months just to see how it is to start drinking them at that age, rather than finish.
