Default boiling wort

I have a ceramic coated steel stock pot with atleast one small chip in it with a little speck of corrosion where the chip is , from what I read I shouldnt use this in beer making. Is this true ? Will it ruin it somehow ? I thought as long as it is sterile there wouldnt be a problem.

Pots like that, with chips, will put iron in the beer. Not a good flavor.

Agreed. You don't want iron in your beer. You might be able to get away with it for now, but definitely start looking for an alternative kettle.

Yeah, I agree with David. It's probably not worth risking. Pots can be had pretty cheap from restaurant supply companies. Or, if you're still doing small/extract batches, its hard to beat Wal Mart.

+1 to Wal Mart. I picked up a 5 gallon canning pot there for 19$. Gave me a few good years until I upgraded to stainless steel.

Ok, thanks. I have a wanted add on craigslist now for a pot , as well as for some food grade buckets or carboys. If nobody bites then I will search walmart for a cheapy.
