Default Blond Ale Recipe

im having trouble finding a good blond ale recipe from extract. and yes ive searched already. here and on google. this is going to be my second batch.

i was planning on starting with 6 lb's of light malt extract and an american ale yeast

what hops should i use? and when in the boil?

Calories: 173.99 kcal per 12.0 fl oz

Original Gravity: 1.053 (1.038 - 1.054)

Terminal Gravity: 1.012 (1.008 - 1.013)

Color: 4.2 (3.0 - 6.0)

Alcohol: 5.37% (3.8% - 5.5%)
|======================#=========|
Bitterness: 20.1 (15.0 - 28.0)

Ingredients:
6.0 lb Dry Light Extract
.75 oz Cascade (5.5%) - added during boil, boiled 60 min
.25 oz Cascade (5.5%) - added during boil, boiled 10 min



If you meant Liquid extract, you can use that same 1oz of hops slightly differently to keep from over bittering:

what if i wanted to use the 6lb liquid extract but i wanted to make it a little bit more alcoholic than the 4.26%?

also, am im going to boil the whole 5 gallons? or like 1 or 2 gallons?

like i said before this is going to be my 2nd batch. the one i did before i boiled 2 gallons and added it to 3 gallons that were already in the primary.

You can add a little bit of dextrose (corn sugar) or table sugar to up the alcohol percentage, but me, I prefer blonde ales low in alcohol. Makes them perfect for a hot summer day. Or breakfast.

On your second Q, you just go ahead and boil however much you can, depending on your kettle size. If you have the capacity to boil 5 gallons, then by all means do so. However, given that extract scorches a little bit and turns darker the longer it's in the boil, I would just add maybe a pound of the extract at the beginning with the bittering hops, and then add the rest of it in at 15 minutes before the end of the boil. That way you won't get a dark blonde ("dishwater blonde" )

In addition to the 6lb of extract... What about steeping a half pound of Carmel 20L @165F for a half hour in 1.5 gallon of water? This would give a little bit extra freshness and taste to the brew.

This is more or a less Jamil's basic blond recipe.

In follow up to Evans suggestion, if you're boiling less than full volume (say 2 gallons), you'll want to add only 3lbs of extract at the beginning and then the next 3lbs when you add your 10 minute hop addition. Honestly, if you want a blonde, stick with the 4% ABV. If you want a 5% +, go with a pale ale. You can steep 1/2lb of crystal 10/20L as njnear76 suggested or even a bit of carapils if you want to.
