Default Beginner Mead Question...

I am new to this site, and hope to get some help. It seems most of the fermentation questions/discussions revolve around beer, which is helpful, but I am looking specifically for info regarding mead.

I started my first batch of mead 4 days ago and everything seemed to be going well. I had "bubbling" in my airlock after about 8 hours or so, and the bubbles started about 10 seconds apart and gradually became faster until they were about 4 seconds apart yesterday morning. Yesterday afternoon they seemed to slow a bit, and today they are about 5 seconds apart. My only question - Is this normal? I would have thought they would continue getting faster for at least a few more days. I realize a lot of people are saying not to worry about the bubbles in the airlock, but I want to make sure there is nothing to worry about.

I appreciate any assistance.

Too many factors you can't control to worry about airlock activity.

If you absolutely must check and see if something is wrong, open the bucket lid and smell. Does it sting your nostrils? Giving off CO2 n ethanol? If so leave it the hell alone for a month under temperature controlled conditions.

Wanna know when it's done? When the yeast flock to the bottom and your final gravity readings are low and stable.

I have a leaky bucket that provides no airlock activity, ever. Surr it's maddening but it's made medal winning beers.

If you can't stand not knowing what's going on inside, ferment in glass.

Hi, and welcome to HBT.
You're right that this part of the forum is mostly about beer. But, there is a whole section dedicated to mead. Just go back up and click on the 'Homebrew forums' then scroll down until you find the mead section.
Personally I've never done one, but I do like looking around and so have seen that meads take a much longer time to ferment than beers, partially because they are deficient in nutrients unless you added those during the 1st couple days of fermentation. The experts are over there, so good luck!

Thanks for the replies. Didn't realize there was a section dedicated to mead, guess I should look around some more on the site.
