To the OP.
Just secure something around your fermentor that blocks light. Do it so that you can lift it up like it was a woman's dress when you want to see how things are looking.

Face it,... both ways are exciting!

I let my stuff ferment in the bathroom as well. I have saved a few big boxes, and i place them over my primary ferments to protect them from the light.

watch out for the rhino farts... oh, and protect your beer too!

Old T-shirt or sweat shirt makes a good carboy cover

I ferment in my smallest bathroom. It's actually the best place in the house I have found. It's got a baseboard heater so I can actually temp control the entire room and no windows. Having said that, I also put my fementer in a passive cool box so in the summer I can keep it cool as well.

Thanks again for all the help. Saved the box from shipment and cut out a hole for the airlock. Looks ghetto but works.

Fluorescents are the worst of the artificial lights to skunk your beer.

Before I got my dedicated fridge, I used the walk-in shower in the master bath. I only blew the lid off once but it sure made for an easy cleanup.

I do the same as well...i have a basement bathroom so i do my active, primary fermentation in the tub that has a few inches of water in it. Also no windows so no light whatsoever in there...after a week or so the fermenter goes into the utility room in the basement, small enough that i can let it cool or run a small oil space heater to warm it up to 70 or so for the clean up phase.

Here you go. It's near-visible UV and blue light that is most damaging to beer. We can clearly see that sunlight is bad news. Incandescent isn't great. Cool LED lights are super bad news for beer apparently.

Now, fluorescent is interesting - I've often heard that fluorescent lights are bad for beer, but looking at several spectra for fluorescent lights, they don't look that bad. Maybe it's the high energy green light at about 550nm?
