Default Aquarium pump aeration - the smell

I got an aquarium pump a while back to use for aeration. I have not used it yet though because I am concerned that the rubber/plastic smell in the air it puts out will affect the beer.

I made a thick filter of wet cotton balls, but that didn't help. I also ran it for about 24 hours to try to get the smell out, but that didn't help at all.
I am thinking of letting it run for a couple of weeks to get rid of the smell.
Has anyone had an aquarium pump contribute any off flavors to their beer, specifically from the rubber smell?

You should get one of these: Sanitary Filter | MoreBeer

I've been using my aquarium pump that does smell like rubber for a while with one of these and haven't noticed any off smells/tastes
