A friend gave me a fridge, which I intend to add the stc-1000, and I'm wondering if there's a way to disable the freezer so I'm not wasting energy and/or gaining a moisture/ mildew issue in there?

Usually no. The fridge portion is actually "powered" by leftover air from the freezer usually. I'm curiouse why you think there will be mildew.

Yea the fridge is powered by the freezer. You could turn is all the way down and that might help or even store hops in there to keep them fresh.

I have a chest freezer that I use in the same way and I have to keep a bag of damp-rid inside or I get moisture buildup. I haven't tried this fridge yet, but I figured it would do the same thing.... Just Speculation I guess.
