Default 4 gallons of beer in 5 gallon carboy?

I racked my first beer to a secondary carboy a couple of days ago and it didn't quite fill the secondary up. It is about 4 gallons of beer which leaves extra headspace in the carboy. Should I worry about this?

no need to worry, racking will have cause some CO2 to be released, and it is sitting on the top of your beer like a blanket, protecting it from oxidation.

If you are really worried, you can get one of those gizzmos that wineshops sell to put CO2 into the carboy and purge the airspace.

Nope, don't worry at all. Your beer will still give off some CO2 which will provide a protective layer over it. RDWHAHB.

Nope. But do you know where your fifth gallon is?

Thanks for the answers. I think I took extra large samples when I checked the FG.
