Beer Of The Week Resurrection?

A while back we did some weekly commercial beer tasting where a single beer would be sampled and critiqued each week. Would anyone be intersted in bringing it back?

If there is interest I could organize it and keep it on track. I propose the following guidelines:

1. Beers must be widely available, imports and domestic, not from micros that don't distribute out of state.

2. Tastings will be done on the weekend Fri-Sun.

3. Beer Of The Week will be announced by Monday, giving everyone the week to find a sample.

We could also use this to discuss how each beer fits in to styles and the style guidelines.

Any thoughts?

I would try to participate if the beer was available as a single in my area.

Obviously, I think that availability will be the #1 limiting factor.

I forgot all about the BOTW! Yeah, let's bring it back. I'm in!

Well, I'd love to do it. Most beers are unavailable to me; however, I'd love to read about them even if I can't get the beer in my area. Or, if you could post them a ways in advance, maybe I could make arrangements to get some of them when I travel or from friends in a beerswap. I have a friend would probably send me some beer if I ask really nice, and send some wine in return.

I think it's a great idea!

Worst case, people that can't find the selected beer could have something in the same style on hand.

What I think I'll do is start a thread in the Sampling forum with a master Beer Of The Week thread. I'll post the rest of the month of February so that you guys and gals can get a head start on finding them. We'll have the first official tasting next week.

I would like to keep it seasonaly appropriate as well, so I'll take that into account.

If anyone has suggestions post them here.

Here's some of my thoughts for possibilities:
Domestic: Sam Adams (including seasonals) Sierra Nevada, New Belgium, Pyramid, Blue Moon...

Other's that might be more regional may be Stone, Red Hook, Flying Dog, Dogfish Head, New Glarus, Abita, Goose Island, Brooklyn...

Many of the imports are available nationwide, so I don't think they will be as much of a problem.

That sounds like a great idea. Like I need an excuse to drink beer. :mug:

Sounds like a good idea, when I'm around (as in not traveling that week) I'd be in.

I'm there!

I think this will be a great way for my to learn about different styles, and help in being able to identify what ingredients I'm tasting.

Can't wait!

I definitely agree. I'd love to participate.
