Might be a good idea, to avoid summer shipping heat...

Hey Chriso, I don't think I've seen anyone go from 0-member so quickly! Good on ya! Also, thanks for organizing this mess.... :-)
I nominate myself as a observing bystander.

Thanks very much! If you hadn't suspected, I'm a chronic nerd (See: The Nerd Handbook) and also have O.C.D. so organizing things is like porn to me.

I'm not much of a "patience" person though. I taught myself to brew in 2 weeks from Papazian's bible. All theoretical, no hands-on. Then, I went to a more established brewer/co-worker's house, set all my shiny new equipment up next to his, and we both brewed a 5 gal all grain batch each. His (porter) scored a 43 for 2nd place (out of 21 brewers). My (brown ale) scored a 34, getting me 13th place, and very barely eliminated. 10th place was a 37, so I was off by 3.

I could've made the top 10 if I hadn't accidentally (still don't know how) gotten too dark for style. Came out as dark as a good porter, even though it tastes like a Newcastle. Judge comments were basically "Should've used more Caramel 40 or 80", where I put a pound of each in.

Maybe the pound of each was my problem. Or maybe it was the 1/2 lb of Chocolate Malt, eh?

Anyways. Long off topic rant, sorry to wander off. (This goes back to the Nerd Handbook linked above.) Point is, THANKS for the compliment! I appreciate your thought, and am excited to contribute to HBT any way I can!

chriso, talk about nerd…if you want some help lining up names, I’ve built a pretty easy to use “randomizer” in Excel that will automatically assign three unique recipients to each participant.

Just type in the info (names, address, usernames, etc…), hit a few macro buttons and it will spit out the exact verbiage you can paste into a PM when it comes time to inform people who they’ve been assigned. Once you type the data in, it's just a few mouseclicks...

Let me know if your interested in looking at it.

another thought/idea I had....I wonder if we could work something out with an online vendor, like Austin, and get a discount on the ingredients since a siht-ton of us are doing the same thing

I was thinking the same thing about Northern Brewer or maybe Midwest Homebrew.

Even if it's not necessarily "Oh, you get 2-row for 1.10 instead of 1.30", but if one of the online retailers were to give us a special discount code for our group that only applies to our RIS purchase?

This is definitely something worth looking at, IMO.

A nerd would have made up miniatures of each of our handles and settled it tournament style with 2d20's.
