I just caught back up with this thread.

Are we on?

Is it official?

Is the BP recipe a lock?

We ought to think about an informal 22Oz bottle beer swap with participants. (If it hasn't already been mentioned).

We each get three people to ship to in time for 08/08/08...and we each get three beers. Then on 08/08/08...let the fun begin.

Course, we could always bottle and ship earlier and let the beers condition in their new home.

+1 to the 22oz 3-people swap idea! Someone want to be the official "registry"?

We should:

- Record names and addresses of all brewers that have given their "okay" for the swap and are brewing on 12/31 or 1/1
- Make a distro chart to make sure that beers are getting mixed around!

If nobody else feels strongly, I'll nominate myself as a reserve "registry". Of course, I'm pretty new here, so I dig if you guys want a longtime member or mod to be the person trusted with mailing addresses. I understand privacy.

I also think the swap is a great idea. Count me in.

Chris, I think it's cool that you volunteered to take on the registry. I wouldn't have a problem with you serving that role.

Default 12/31 or 1/1 Brew Day Roster!

THIS SINGLE POST IS THE DEFINITIVE SOURCE FOR INFORMATION/RULES/FAQ'S ON THE 08/08/08 RIS SWAP. PLEASE RE-READ IT FREQUENTLY, ANY CHANGES WILL BE POSTED HERE.

Terms and Conditions and Dates
So. I am proposing that we all brew on approximately 12/31/2007 or 1/1/2008 (with of course people adjusting their own schedules as necessary). I propose that this swap be available to Supporting Members only, which is in agreement with current HBT policy. I will check and edit the "I'm In!" list as necessary.

I propose that sign-up for swappers be closed on or around 2/28/2008. Then, I will have until 4/1/2008 to tabulate the necessary information, and distribute mailing lists.

Beer and Shipping Info
I propose that each swapper send (2-22oz 'bombers') or (4-12oz bottles), at least two bottles of which should be your 08-08-08 RIS. If you choose 22's, you've satisfied the requirement. If you use 12's, then you have two more bottles to include, which can be any homebrew of your discretion, including more RIS. Of course, please tell your recipient what the other two bottles contain. (Updated 1/23 for clarity/ambiguity)

Prior swaps have suggested that swappers wrap each bottle in bubble wrap, line box with something soft (more wrap, or newspaper, or something), and for the love of Cthulu, put your parcels inside of a good plastic bag of some kind (Trash bag) for leakage. Then, ship via UPS (NOT US MAIL).

Then, all packages should be shipped by approximately 4/30/2008 (giving each brewer roughly 1 month to ship). This will allow the recipients time to let the bottle readjust and let yeast settle back out. Also, by shipping during the month of April, most swappers should have the added convenience of shipping during mild weather, so that heat nor cold can stand in our way!

Do these terms sound okay? Any suggestions, please PM.

Thanks,
Chris

4. Must be willing to ACCEPT fair, honest, constructive criticism on the beers you send, even if it's not all wonderful.

You will be sending out a minimum of 44 fluid ounces to three other individuals, and receiving back the same. To each person, you may send either a pair of 22ounce bombers, or four 12-ounce bottles. We'd all prefer that you send out good stuff - not "Can-you-tell-me-if-you-think-this-is-infected?"-brews."
This swap fits all of the above criteria.

Brothers in Brew:

I just wanted to be clear about the 08/08/08 RIS swap. We have segregated the swap for Supporting and Non-supporting members. The issue at hand is a balance between accountability and confidentiality.

All HBT members can engage the community, be regarded as trusted source of information and show reliability.

A Non-supporting does so in a state of relative anonymity.
A Supporting member, through the registration process, provides contact information to the site Admin.

This ensures that the Admin has the ability to personally identify a particular member if need be.

Supporting members information should never go to anyone other than a supporting member.

==================================================
The Official Rest of the Membership 08/08/08 RIS Swap:
==================================================
I will coordinate the Swap for Non-supporting members. If you wish to be in on this trade, please, send me (ollllo, not chriso) a PM with your shipping information with your Name, Address and either a phone or email. All the other rules above apply.

Here's who I have PMed so far:

- Engelramm
- rpucci
- IndyPABrewGuy
- Dycokac
- brewt00l

I would not figure the swaps until all the people that said they are in actually brew. we all know how life gets in the way of brewing.

Agreed. I think sometime after the brew date we figure who actually brewed. That way there's no reshuffling of addresses and such.

Good thinking. I nominate we close entry at around 2/1/08 then, because that would give people a full month after 1/1 to catch up if they missed it.
Then, I prepare lists and disburse them around 3/1/08.

Thoughts, comments, suggestions?
