What the...Soapy Apples....Huh?
I have been noticing lately a common undertone of what I can only describe as soapy apples. Not overt but definatley there. Melbourne has extreamly soft water which is good for lager and pilszner but I cant understand this recent change in taste. What might I be inadvertantly doing to cause this?

Extremely soft water can make rinsing all of the soap off of equipment difficult. My water in Oregon approaches the distilled level & I had to change my cleaning methods.

But, both apple & soap can be from the yeast.

Blaine - a bit of a puzzler as the apple flavour is frequently from inadequate conditioning - ie racking too soon from primary and not allowing the yeast to clean up after themselves while soapy (assuming you are rinsing or not using a detergent) can be from autolysis and leaving your beer too long on the yeast.
