Default What do you guys think of this IPA recipe?

Hey everyone,

I`m planning on brewing an IPA over the weekend (which i have not done before....yeah i know ). I'd like to get some feedback, i`d like to have a light yet hoppy (more of a floral punch than bitterness) ale, so here is my recipe:

8lbs (3.6kg) - Pale liquid extract
0.55lbs (0.25kg) - Crystal malt
1oz (25g) - chinook at 60min
2oz (50g) - kent goldings at 15min
1oz (25g) - cascade - dry hopping
wyeast british ale yeast

Estimates:
OG: 1,058
FG: 1,014
ABV: 5,6
IBU: 50.4

Thanks everyone
Feel free suggest other recipes or any modifs..

Not sure if I like using the EKG at 15 minutes. I'd go for another American C hop there, cascades, or williamette instead of the EKG.

EKG are too yummy to bury under cascade and chinook, IMO.

Chinook, cascade, cascade will give you a very drinkable IPA in my opinion.

+1 on chinook & cascade...

depending on what you have:

1 oz chinook @ 60
1 oz cascade @ 15
1 oz cascade @ 5
1 oz cascade (dry)

also, 8 lbs of LME is a good amount for this style. What kinda crystal are you using? I'd vote for 60L myself...

I did the following on my IPA this weekend. I like a blend of crystal to give a little more interesting malt/sweet flavor than just one crystal. Not a lot of difference but it is noticeable over only one type.

4.0 oz Caramel/Crystal Malt - 40L (40.0 SRM)
4.0 oz Caramel/Crystal Malt - 90L (90.0 SRM)
2.0 oz Caramel/Crystal Malt -120L (120.0 SRM)

If you don't have access to grain by the oz, 40L or 60L would be good. I'd lean more towards 60L.

I would vote for adding 8oz of victory malt along with the 60L. I just did a HOPHEAD IPA
9 lbs. Light LME
3/4 60L
1/2 victory malt

1 oz chinnook
1 oz centeninal
1 oz cascade
1 oz crystal

2 oz cascade dry hop.

This smelled HEAVENLY!!! I can not wait till I crack one of these.
