Default third batch

Id like to do a stout for my 3 batch and so far, most of the recipes use a pale malt extract. What is that ? Is is a common beer kit like a light ale ? The problem is that most beer kit are hopped but I need an unhopped malt. Also, in the recipe, they specify to use a syrup extract but if I can only get a powder extract, is it gonna ok ?

There are many kits that are unhopped and stouts are very common. Have you looked at some of the online stores to see their products? A few that come to mind are Morebeer, Norther Brewer, and Austin Homebrew. Dried malt extract can be interchanged with liquid malt extract.

I checked online but I'd like to order from a canadian store to avoid paying additional taxes. Do you use the same amount of DME if the recipe was made with syrup ?

Use about 20% or so less (DME is a little more concentrated than LME).
