Default small bubbles but gravity not falling

Hi,I brewed a trippel 7 weeks ago with white labs 530.While I still see small bubbles consistently rising to the top of the secondary when i shine a light on it, the gravity has held @ 1.016 for three weeks now. anyone know what the bubbles are if the gravity has stopped dropping? thanks

The bubbles are co2 coming out of the solution. If you move the carboy, even more will bubble up until it settles down again.

oh so the bubbles do not represent active fermentation, but are simply the remnants of it still in the solution. gotcha. thanks YooperBrew

bingo. its exactly why you wanna look at the hydrometer, and not bubbles or airlock activity, to judge when its done.

if the krauesen is still there its still fermenting away right? i've had what was supposed to be a quick fermenting brown ale thats been fermenting in primary for over 2 weeks. there's still krauesen and bubbles coming up pretty regularly. i know i can do SG readings but isn't the krausen dropping into the beer (and off the top) a good sign that fermentation is over?

When you move from primary to secondary, even if the kräusen has settled, that doesn't mean fementation is definitively over (how do you suppose it keeps fermenting after racking?). As they say, look at your hydrometer.
