Default Screw top wine bottles?

There must be a reason not to do this or everyone would do it. Can anyone explain? Is the pressure too much for a screw on cap?

I think people don't use them because the quality of re-seal is questionable.

Your question is listed in the Extract Brewing Section, so I am assuming you are asking this question for use with Beer. If so, I would advise against using wine bottles as they will not stand up to beer pressures. Champagne bottles are quite good to use for beer. Though they are pricey compared to regulare bottles.

Salute!

If you're asking if you can put beer in them, then the answer is no. They are not designed to handle the pressure of carbonation and they'll blow up on you.

If you're asking why wine companies use screw-caps instead of corks in their bottles, it's because they seal better and are cheaper.
