Default Rare to have undrinkable beer

Well I thought that I brewed my first batch of undrinkable beer.
I was wrong.

I had a big extract beer with OG 1.090, was new at brewing and didn't pitch enough yeast - so ended up with a noxious 1.030 beer that tasted like wort syrup. Bottle conditioned, so figured I wasted a lot of time and effort when it barely carbonated and was not palatable.

Then I read a lot of different posts on here, and mixed it with an APA that I brewed and had ready in the bottle. The two balanced out and made a pretty tasty brown ale of sorts.

From making this mistake, I am now eager to change my recipe slightly to add more hops similar to what I used in the APA and lighten the "grain" bill a bit to make a better beer with a strong yeast starter.

And now I get to savor my once nearly wasted beer! Just wanted to see if anyone else had a similar experience with mixing batches.
