How does molasses turn out with it? I really want to try it, although am yet to find a distributor that I can get it off locally, without going to a pet food shop and getting what might be pre contaminated, due to the fact its for horses.. if this is even possible

Molassas is a food ingredient that can be found in your local grocery store right next to the pancake syrup.

Still couldn't find any. I know its sugar in its least refined form, and clearly edible.. use to have horses as a kid and suck it out of the tap.. drip, drip, drip

Just eating licorice bullets, I looked at the ingredients, basically pure sugar, molasses being the most prevalent one. Might try boiling some into a syrup, and using that instead of the closest I can get, which is treacle.

It's either next to the honey & pancake syrup, or it's in the baking aisle, or next to the alternative sweeteners like agave syrup. Of course, if you can't find it, you can always ask the grocer for help.

If you STILL can't find it, you can always go to another grocery store & repeat the process, or order it online:

Thanks heaps, didn't try looking with the artificial sweeteners, I'll have a look next time I go down the street

I made a Porter once with Black Strap Molasses, which is a commericial variant. It's much more potent to withstand the boil and fermentation. I got a plastic off-flavor in that batch - which after my HBT research - I believe it was unrelated and due to water quality.
