Default Liquid malt extract

My local brew shop sells liquid malt extract in plactic containers - 3lb per container. I just made some home brew which i needed 1/2 the container in the recipie i used. So i just put the top back on the plastic container of the half I didnt use. Will this remain ok in a non air tight container? Are there any rules on storage for liquid malt extract - and how long will it remain good for?

Thanks

Some people will pour some vodka on top to prevent mold growth and store it at room temperature. Most LHBS that carry LME in bulk, just have it sitting around in barrels. I just put my extras in the freezer.

I agree with that. But if you are going to store, just follow some basic rules for storing perishables, and dont let it sit for too long and you should be fine.

I'm with those who use it all - just add "imperial" in front of the name.

Buy the LME in the big 30lb(?) growler. That stores nicely.
